A tense evening at an Abu Dhabi falcon auction saw bidding rise sharply, with a UAE-produced Qarmousha Pure selling for Dh200,000 as buyers competed for prized birds with strong bloodlines and competition records.
The auction, held at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi on Sunday, featured six falcons that collectively sold for Dh326,000.
UAE-produced falcon takes top price
The night’s biggest sale was a Qarmousha Pure from Bheiran farm. The bird opened at Dh20,000 but quickly became the focus of intense competition, eventually reaching Dh200,000.
Auctioneer Khalid bin Saifan Al Muhairi repeatedly highlighted the bird’s UAE production and previous performances in local competitions, encouraging bidders to consider its potential for upcoming events.
The auction also attracted online bidders, with the auctioneer using close-up views of the falcon’s build, feathers and talons to give potential buyers a better look at the bird.
White Jeer draws strong interest
Earlier in the evening, a white Jeer Pure from YSL farm initially struggled to attract buyers. After opening at Dh20,000, bidding moved slowly before eventually reaching Dh38,000.
The bird was the first of six offered during the evening’s auction, which formed part of a series of sales linked to the 23rd Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX).
Falconer pays Dh250,000 for rare bird
The previous night’s auction had already produced a major sale, with Khalid himself paying Dh250,000 for a Jeer Pure Super White.
He said the bird’s pure Jeer bloodline, rare white colouring and versatility made it particularly valuable. According to Khalid, the falcon has potential in hunting, racing and beauty competitions.
He revealed that he had been prepared to bid as much as Dh350,000 for the bird, illustrating the premium buyers can place on rare bloodlines and competition-quality falcons.
Falconry tradition passed through generations
For Khalid, falconry is more than a competitive pursuit. His interest in the sport comes from his father and grandfather, with his family’s connection to falconry stretching back decades.
He also described patience as one of the most important lessons he has learned from handling falcons.
His approach to auctions is based on demand and rarity: if he finds a bird he genuinely needs and believes will be difficult to replace, he is willing to compete aggressively for it.
Other falcons sold
Several other birds changed hands during the auction:
- Jeer Taba from Bheiran farm: Dh13,000
- British Jeer Pure from KH Falcon Team: Dh30,000
- British white Qarmousha Pure: Dh23,000
- UAE-produced Jeer Pure from Bheiran farm: Dh22,000
The Sunday auction was the second of eight auctions associated with ADIHEX. Four are scheduled before the exhibition opens, while another four will take place during the event.
ADIHEX runs from August 28 to September 6, bringing together breeders, falconers and enthusiasts from the UAE and abroad.
The latest sales underline the enduring demand for exceptional falcons, particularly birds with rare colouring, proven bloodlines and strong competition records.
