Abu Dhabi Police have reminded motorists that vehicles ordered to be impounded can, in certain cases, remain at the owner’s home or another approved location under the emirate’s smart impoundment service.
The system is designed to make the impoundment process more convenient for eligible vehicle owners while allowing authorities to maintain oversight of cars that are required to remain off the road. Instead of transporting a vehicle to a traditional impound yard, a smart electronic tracking device is installed while the car remains in the owner’s custody.
The service offers a practical alternative for motorists facing violations that require their vehicles to be impounded, provided they meet the conditions set by the authorities.
What Is Abu Dhabi’s Smart Impoundment Service?
Under the smart impoundment system, a vehicle can be kept at the owner’s home or another convenient location rather than being transferred to a police impoundment facility.
However, the vehicle remains under official impoundment conditions. A smart tracking device is installed so authorities can monitor the car and ensure it is not moved from the location declared by the owner.
The service allows motorists to keep their vehicles nearby while still complying with impoundment requirements.
Who Can Use the Service?
According to the conditions outlined by Abu Dhabi Police, the service is available when a traffic violation requires the impoundment of a vehicle.
Motorists must also:
- Have committed a violation that carries a vehicle impoundment requirement
- Sign a declaration and commitment form accepting the service conditions
- Be personally present or appoint an officially authorised representative with a valid power of attorney
- Provide the required identification and vehicle details
Owners are also required to present their Emirates ID and pay a fee of Dh15 per day for the service.
How to Apply for Home Vehicle Impoundment
Motorists can request the service through the Abu Dhabi government’s digital platform.
The application process includes the following steps:
- Log in to the TAMM platform.
- Select Drive & Transport from the homepage.
- Choose Fines & Violations.
- Select Home Impounding for Vehicles.
- Enter the required details, including your name, mobile number and traffic file number.
- Submit the request and complete the required formalities.
Once the application has been processed, the applicant receives confirmation through SMS or email.
How the Smart Tracking System Works
After approval, authorities install a smart electronic device on the vehicle. The system allows officials to monitor whether the car remains at the declared location during the impoundment period.
Moving the vehicle from the approved location could result in a breach of the service conditions.
The arrangement allows the vehicle to remain physically close to its owner while ensuring that impoundment requirements continue to be enforced.
A More Convenient Alternative for Motorists
The smart impoundment programme reflects Abu Dhabi’s broader use of digital services and technology to simplify government procedures.
For eligible motorists, the option removes the need for a vehicle to be taken to a traditional impound yard. At the same time, the authorities retain the ability to monitor compliance through electronic tracking technology.
Drivers facing vehicle impoundment can therefore check whether their violation qualifies for the service and complete the application through the relevant digital platform.
