Iran Expands Regional Strikes After US Bombing Campaign Targets Southern Iran

Dubai: The conflict between the United States and Iran escalated sharply on Tuesday as Iranian forces launched attacks targeting U.S.-linked military sites in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan, hours after American forces carried out fresh strikes on military targets in southern and western Iran.

The exchange marked the tenth consecutive night of military action, deepening concerns over regional stability and the security of global energy supplies.

US Launches Fresh Airstrikes

The latest U.S. operation followed President Donald Trump’s warning that Iran would face severe consequences after the deaths of American service members during the conflict.

According to U.S. Central Command, the strikes targeted Iranian military command facilities, missile and drone launch sites, maritime capabilities, and air defense systems.

Iranian state media reported explosions near Shiraz, Konarak, Chabahar, Khorramabad, and areas near Abdanan, with multiple military-related locations reportedly coming under attack.

Iran Responds Across the Gulf

Iran responded by launching attacks against U.S.-linked facilities across the Gulf region.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claimed responsibility for targeting infrastructure in Bahrain that they said was connected to U.S. technology company Amazon, describing the strike as retaliation for recent U.S. military operations.

Iranian media also reported attacks on accommodation facilities used by U.S. military personnel at Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain.

Separately, Iran said it launched drone strikes targeting three U.S. military bases in Kuwait, while also attacking a U.S. military site in Jordan.

Jordan’s military later announced that its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed several Iranian drones before they reached their targets.

Neither the U.S. military nor Bahraini authorities immediately confirmed the reported attacks.

Tanker Incident Raises Shipping Concerns

The conflict also affected one of the world’s busiest maritime trade routes.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency said a commercial tanker in the Strait of Hormuz was struck by an unidentified projectile, forcing the crew to abandon the vessel and move to lifeboats.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards separately reported that two oil tankers caught fire after explosions while transiting the strait, although independent verification of those claims was not immediately available.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes, making any disruption a major concern for global energy markets.

Houthis Threaten Wider Blockade

The regional conflict widened further after Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement announced plans to impose a naval blockade affecting Saudi Arabia.

The group warned that commercial vessels operating through Saudi ports could become potential targets, raising fears that shipping routes in both the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea could face increasing risks.

Analysts warn that any prolonged disruption to shipping through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and the Strait of Hormuz could significantly affect global oil exports and international trade.

Diplomatic Efforts Continue

Despite the continuing military exchanges, diplomatic channels remain active.

Sources familiar with the negotiations indicated that mediators have proposed a 10-day ceasefire aimed at preventing further escalation and creating space for renewed negotiations.

Iran has also sought regional mediation, with senior Iranian officials engaging in discussions with Pakistan to explore possible diplomatic solutions.

Meanwhile, Israel has not directly participated in the latest round of military operations but has stated that it remains prepared for any developments.

US Issues Global Security Advisory

Amid the expanding conflict, the U.S. State Department issued a worldwide security advisory urging American citizens to remain vigilant due to heightened tensions across the Middle East.

The latest escalation comes after weeks of fighting that has already resulted in significant casualties and growing concerns over regional security, international shipping, and global energy markets.
