Dubai Warns Media Outlets Over False Reports, Reaffirms Commitment to Verified Information

Dubai: Dubai authorities have warned media organisations that publishing false or unverified information about the emirate could lead to legal action, following the circulation of inaccurate reports claiming explosions had occurred in Downtown Dubai.

The warning was issued by the Government of Dubai Media Office (GDMO) after reports circulated on Thursday suggesting loud explosions had been heard in the city’s Downtown district.

In an official statement, the Media Office confirmed that no such incident had taken place and dismissed the claims as inaccurate. Authorities urged news organisations and digital platforms to rely on official sources before publishing information related to public safety or security.

“The necessary measures will be taken against media institutions that publish incorrect or unverified information concerning the Emirate of Dubai, in accordance with the applicable laws and regulatory frameworks,” the statement said.

The clarification followed reports published by international media citing witnesses who claimed to have heard loud sounds in the area. The initial reports did not establish the source of the sounds or confirm that any incident had occurred.

Dubai officials stressed that circulating unverified information can create unnecessary public concern, particularly during periods of heightened regional tensions.

Authorities called on journalists, publishers, and social media users to verify information through official government channels before sharing reports related to security or emergency situations.
