Facebook Down: Thousands Report Login and Website Issues as Users Face Temporary Outage

Thousands of Facebook users experienced disruptions on Saturday morning after the social media platform appeared to suffer a technical issue that affected access to the website and user accounts.

Reports of the disruption began increasing shortly before 9 a.m. (UK time), with users saying they were unable to access Facebook through the desktop version of the platform. Many encountered an on-screen notice stating that their accounts were temporarily unavailable because of a site issue.

Monitoring platform Downdetector recorded a sharp rise in user reports during the outage, indicating that the disruption was affecting users in multiple locations. According to the service, website access problems accounted for the largest share of complaints, followed by login difficulties and issues loading the Facebook feed.

The incident prompted many users to turn to other social media platforms to confirm whether the problem was widespread. Posts referencing #FacebookDown quickly appeared as people shared screenshots of the error message and asked whether others were experiencing similar difficulties.

While desktop users appeared to be among the most affected, the extent of any impact on Facebook’s mobile applications was not immediately clear.

Meta, Facebook’s parent company, had not issued a public statement explaining the cause of the disruption at the time of publication. It also remained unclear how many users worldwide were affected or how long the service interruption would continue.
