Indian airlines have advised passengers travelling around Independence Day to arrive at airports well ahead of their scheduled departure times, citing enhanced security checks and additional airport formalities.
The advisories are particularly relevant for UAE-based Indian travellers heading to India or returning to the UAE during the busy August travel period. India celebrates its Independence Day on August 15.
Air India issues travel advisory
Air India has asked passengers travelling between August 10 and August 20 to allow extra time at airports.
The airline said additional security measures could result in longer processing times for security screening and other airport procedures. Passengers have therefore been advised to reach the airport well in advance of their scheduled departure.
The guidance comes during one of the busiest periods on the India-UAE travel corridor, with many expatriate families travelling during the summer school holidays.
SpiceJet gives similar warning
SpiceJet has also issued an advisory covering passengers travelling from August 11 to August 20.
The airline warned that enhanced security arrangements may require additional time for screening and airport formalities, urging travellers to plan their journey accordingly.
Passengers should also expect possible delays during check-in, security screening and other pre-flight procedures.
UAE travellers urged to plan ahead
Indian nationals make up one of the largest expatriate communities in the UAE, and August traditionally sees significant passenger movement between the UAE and India as families return after the summer break.
Travellers using UAE airports as part of their journey are advised to check the latest instructions from their airline before leaving for the airport.
Allowing additional time for airport procedures could help passengers avoid unnecessary stress, particularly during the busy travel window surrounding India’s Independence Day.
