UAE Continues Probe Into False Reports Claiming Explosions in Dubai

Dubai: UAE authorities are pressing ahead with an investigation into false reports that claimed explosions had occurred in Dubai’s Business Bay, underscoring the country’s firm stance against the spread of misinformation.

Attorney General Dr Hamad Al Shamsi said on Saturday that prosecutors are continuing to examine how the inaccurate report was prepared, approved and published, despite it later being withdrawn.

The investigation follows the circulation of a news report on Thursday alleging that explosions had been heard in Dubai’s Business Bay. The claim was swiftly rejected by the Dubai Media Office, which confirmed that the report was false and urged the public to rely only on official sources for verified information.

According to the Attorney General, investigators have already recorded the statement of the reporter involved in the story and have summoned individuals responsible for preparing, reviewing and approving the report at the news agency.

The investigation will examine the editorial process behind the publication, including whether proper verification procedures were followed and if the report complied with the legal and professional standards expected before information is released to the public.

Dr Al Shamsi said the inquiry would continue regardless of the agency’s decision to retract the report and issue a public apology.

“The withdrawal of the report and the publication of an apology do not end the legal process,” he said, adding that authorities will determine whether any legal responsibility exists based on the findings of the investigation.

The case comes as authorities across the region continue to monitor the spread of unverified information during a period of heightened geopolitical tensions. UAE officials have repeatedly urged residents and media organisations to rely on official government channels for updates and to avoid sharing rumours or unconfirmed reports that could mislead the public or create unnecessary concern.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not announced a timeline for its conclusion.
