Two people have been fined Dh50,000 each after being convicted of assaulting a petrol station employee during a dispute over cleaning a vehicle’s windscreen in Al Ain.
The Al Ain Misdemeanour Court also ordered both defendants to complete two months of community service at the same petrol station where the incident occurred.
Dispute began over windshield cleaning
According to the case details, the driver asked a petrol station attendant to clean the vehicle’s windscreen. The employee reportedly asked the defendants to wait because the station was busy.
What began as a disagreement quickly escalated into an argument and then a physical assault.
The employee suffered bruises and pain, with his injuries documented in a medical report.
CCTV footage supports court case
The court reviewed several pieces of evidence before reaching its decision. These included surveillance camera footage capturing the argument and assault, statements from witnesses, the defendants’ admissions during proceedings and the victim’s medical report.
The court found the defendants responsible for assaulting an employee while he was carrying out his duties.
Dh50,000 fine and community service
Each defendant was ordered to pay a Dh50,000 fine. They must also complete two months of community service at the petrol station where the incident took place.
The ruling was issued under UAE Crimes and Penalties Law provisions that criminalise using force or violence against a public employee or a person performing a public service while carrying out their official duties.
Court stresses lawful ways to resolve disputes
The court highlighted the importance of respecting the law and avoiding confrontations with workers performing their duties.
It also stressed that people who have disputes should use official channels to resolve complaints rather than resorting to threats or physical violence.
The case serves as a reminder that disagreements at petrol stations and other public-service locations can have serious legal consequences when they escalate into assault.
